Zero Waste Fashion: Rhinoshield × Story Wear Collaboration at Taipei Fashion Week SS25

At the highly anticipated Taipei Fashion Week, Taiwan’s top designers gathered once again. This year, Rhinoshield has teamed up with the brand’s sustainability partner Story Wear to showcase the concept of “Zero Waste Fashion” in their SS25 design theme, ONE.

This time, both brands have launched a collaborative collection of mobile accessories.  With the concept of using fashion as a language on the runway to reflect various perspectives of life and convey the meaning that “We are all unique, but at the same time, our destinies are interconnected.”

Fashion is more than just trendy, disposable items.

Every year, more than 4.5 billion pairs of jeans and 1 billion phone cases are produced, most of which have a short lifespan, are discarded as trends pass by, and become part of the pollution that overwhelms our planet.

These days, sustainable fashion is no longer just a buzzword or a globe symbol on a product, as with the Fur Free and Cruelty-Free Beauty revolutions. Consumers are demanding that big brands take real action. Inaction or superficial efforts are seen as irresponsible and anachronistic “greenwashing.”

The solution lies in the “circular economy”, from the development of materials to recycling and reuse, so that fashion can be truly environmentally friendly.

Fashion is a cycle of constant revival and innovation.

Creating a circular ecosystem by turning old things into new fashion is what Rhinoshield and Story Wear are committed to. Rhinoshield adheres to the principle of using a single material for the phone case, which means that after recycling, there is no need to separate the materials or clean the glue, reducing waste and leading to 100% zero waste recycling.

Story Wear focuses on using recycled denim and discarded fabrics, giving new life to fashion through local tailors, women returning to work, and families affected by cerebral palsy.

We believe that the meaning of fashion lies in its ability to withstand time, becoming a reminder that stays with you through every walk of life. When it's time to say goodbye, it can still come back in a new form for the next generation, ready to be used or loved by someone new.

Using virtual surfaces to replace adhesives that hinder recycling

Rhinoshield’s RE:Texture™ Haptic printing technology explores the concept of “renewable materials” and “creative media” to create a high-performance UV technology that not only provides a realistic tactile experience and complex light reflections, but also offers a uniquely strong adhesive that makes recycling difficult for fabric, carbon fiber or wood phone cases. Rhinoshield’s phone cases simply need to be peeled off before they can be recycled.

The accessories collection, created in collaboration with Story Wear, features denim, indigo and designs inspired by the sustainable mall in Dadaocheng, as well as experimental designs using RE:Texture™ Haptic printing technology, such as the hibiscus applique. Using Story Wear's signature geometric applique technique, this hibiscus reveals a surface pattern with four arrowheads converging at the center, symbolizing that when people come together to believe, life can be bright again, just like the hibiscus that blooms again.

Cross-sector collaboration to strengthen sustainability impact

To spread this philosophy across industries, Story Wear's launch event invited unconventional models to walk in a crossover fashion show featuring actors, social media content creators and drag queens, proving that fashion should not be limited to one imagination, but should embrace all walks of life.

Directed for the first time by Wang Hsiao-Ti, the fashion show incorporates elements of theatre and collaborates with the Xuan Yi New Knowledge Caring Association to tell the story behind the zero-waste fashion created by a family affected by cerebral palsy.

From tech to art, from smart devices to craftsmanship, as sustainability becomes a cross-sector and global trend, fashion is being redefined. It is no longer led by a few, but rather integrated into the way we live our lives.
